Colour vision and visual performance in the mesopic range of vision
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of this work is to predict mesopic detection contrast thresholds for spectral increments on a fixed uniform mesopic background. A compound contrast-type quantity C including achromatic and chromatic terms is defined. The detection threshold is characterized by C=1. From this criterion, a spectral non-additivity formula (NA) is derived for a mesopic luminance difference type quantity. Actual values of NA are computed for a realistic example.

Into the twilight zone: the complexities of mesopic vision and luminous efficiency.
Of all the functions that define visual performance, the mesopic luminous efficiency function is probably the most complex and hardest to standardise or model. Complexities arise because of the substantial and often rapid visual changes that accompany the transition from scotopic to photopic vision. These are caused not only by the switch from rod to cone photoreceptors, but also by switches be...
متن کاملFunctional preservation and variation in the cone opsin genes of nocturnal tarsiers.
The short-wavelength sensitive (S-) opsin gene OPN1SW is pseudogenized in some nocturnal primates and retained in others, enabling dichromatic colour vision. Debate on the functional significance of this variation has focused on dark conditions, yet many nocturnal species initiate activity under dim (mesopic) light levels that can support colour vision. Tarsiers are nocturnal, twilight-active p...
متن کاملNighttime Driving in Older Adults: Effects of Glare and Association With Mesopic Visual Function.
Purpose To examine the associations between nighttime driving performance of older drivers and photopic, mesopic, and glare-based tests of visual function. Methods Participants included 26 older drivers (71.8 ± 6.3 years), with minimal or no eye disease, but who reported vision-related nighttime driving difficulties. Nighttime driving performance was assessed on a closed-road circuit, which i...
